Difference between Primary and Secondary Instrument - Electrical Diary

Primary or absolute instrumentPrimary or absolute instrument are those instrument which indicates the quantity to be measured in term of constants of instruments and in order to find out constant and, these instruments are suitable for laboratory use only.
Example:-Tangent galvanometer which gives the measured current in terms of the tangent of the deflected angle, the radius, and the number of turns of the galvanometer.

Secondary Instruments -The instruments which measure an electrical quantity on a calibrated scale is termed as a secondary instrument. These instruments measure large values of electrical quantities. Most of the measuring instruments which are used, generally are of secondary type measuring instrument. Secondary instruments are classified into three categories

  • Integrating Instrument
  • Indicating Instrument
  • Recording Instrument
